PTFE Machining for Custom Seals, Insulators & Fluid Parts
PTFE machining is useful for custom components where chemical resistance, low friction or electrical insulation is required. Its low stiffness and tendency to deform under load require a different tolerance and workholding approach from rigid engineering plastics.

Applications and grade selection
PTFE may be considered for seals, spacers, insulating components and compatible fluid-handling parts. Unfilled and filled grades can differ in wear, stiffness and dimensional behavior. Identify the grade and fillers, and provide the actual media, temperature and loading conditions for review.
Tolerances and measurement force
Soft PTFE can deform under a clamp or measuring tool. Critical dimensions should be evaluated with appropriate measurement force and conditions. Large sections, thin walls and unsupported features may need different tolerance expectations; there is no universal machining tolerance for all PTFE parts.
Creep and assembly requirements
A part under sustained load can change shape over time. Sealing compression, fastener preload and thread engagement therefore need application review. Do not assume that an initially tight fit will remain unchanged in service. Consider the mating materials and working temperature when defining the design.
Machining and handling scope
Milling, turning and secondary operations are selected around the component geometry and support requirements. Specify deburring, cleanliness and surface appearance requirements. If the application has a regulated or purity requirement, request the exact grade documentation rather than assuming compliance from the material name.
